Great Salt Lake Research Grants

Request for Proposals (RFP) 2009

The Utah Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry, Fire & State Lands at the recommendation of the Research and Grants subcommittee of the Great Salt Lake Technical Team awarded seven grants totaling over $200,000 for research project work on the Great Salt Lake. Proposals came from universities, government agencies, and private consulting and/or research firms.

The Request for Proposals asked for projects that addressed five "hot topics" of broad interest on Great Salt Lake:

  1. Effects of diking on Great Salt Lake
  2. Effects of a drying lake on human health, ecosystem health, and the economy of Utah
  3. Methods to assess habitat quality of Great Salt Lake (which may include identifying indicator species)
  4. Mercury
  5. Monitoring
